Helpful Resources

These are items I’ve found helpful at times – you may find the same.  A link or reference doesn’t mean I value the whole of the website or practicioner’s view, just that there might be a thing or two that could be helpful there.

Massage and Bodywork efficacy research links are often posted elsewhere in posts or tweets.

Encouragement for Active Lifestyle, “Homework”, and Wellness

Life impact of switching to bike commuting…Posting this here as a “resource” vs inspiration because it includes some nice numbers to frame the situation and backup the position of how exercise can have major quantifiable benefits.  Here, quantifiable is sometimes anecdotal as the presenter describes the numbers that changed in his life, but you don’t have to go far to find statistical reviews in peer-reviewed literature to see big results.  And the other numbers presented here, e.g. total impact on societal cost savings in a cost-benefit analysis, are more general, more widely applicable, and more interesting, imho.

“Homework” (In the best of ways! Like the art project or volcano project you loved in grade school!) can be such an important part of co-participation in wellness-oriented massage and bodywork – this presentation seemed a neat alternate perspective on it…

Gabor Maté “Consequences of Stressed Parenting” (youtube) – Many videos out there related – this one is a nice summary of his focal points of late and also contains some key additional points regarding the learning state versus the stressed state and how this impacts behavior interactions with children (and by relationship, how we can review our own current states of being and life influences to guide ourselves toward better quality of life)

Alain de Botton – Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person – Cool, digestible, synopsis of the skills that are needed for loving and being in relationship with other humans.
